Gemotions

A wave of nausea churned in David’s stomach as he reread the missive. He’d penned it to his older brother, the golden child, the one who could do no wrong in their father’s eyes. A letter, detailing his accomplishments, his hopes, his desire for acknowledgment. Now, bathed in the harsh light of a late afternoon sun, it felt like a pathetic admission of failure.

He imagined his brother, impeccably dressed, probably sipping something expensive, dismissing it with a careless flick of the wrist. The image ignited a familiar heat behind his eyes. He balled the page and flung it across the room, it landing near the empty whiskey bottle.
