The ink on the letter was faded, the paper thin. It was a letter to her former mentor, someone she had greatly admired. Years later, she had discovered that he had taken credit for her work. The carefully worded letter, a plea for recognition, now felt like a badge of shame.

She pictured him, the esteemed professor, the image he carefully crafted for the world. A muscle in her jaw ticked as she reread the respectful tone of the letter. The man was a fraud, and she, a fool. She slammed the letter shut and threw it, hard, into the garbage.
