The man kept trying to start a conversation. He asked inane questions, commented on the lack of air, even attempted a lighthearted observation about the interior decor. She simply stared at the floor, refusing to acknowledge his presence. She could feel her stomach churning with a mixture of annoyance and…fear? No, not fear. Just…annoyance. She had a very important client to contact.

“It’s, uh, kind of hot in here, isn’t it?” he ventured eventually.

She remained silent, her jaw locked. He would surely know better than to try again.
