“Oh, what a shame,” I muttered, though the words felt like acid on my tongue. The tree, belonging to Mrs. Gable next door, had crumpled across her meticulously manicured lawn like a discarded toy. I leaned on my shovel, observing the chaos.

Her prized roses, reduced to a pile of tangled thorns and crushed petals. It was almost poetic. She, who had the audacity to criticize my overgrown hedges, now faced nature’s untamed wrath.
