Gemotions

The news landed on Sarah like a physical blow. A phone call from her father. He was, as ever, a coward. He let the woman, who was apparently her sister, make the introductions. Sarah’s hands tightened into fists, her nails digging into her palms. She stared at the caller ID, her father's name staring back at her.

She hung up, then threw her phone against the wall. It shattered.

The silence that followed was broken by her own ragged breathing. Her apartment suddenly felt too small, too confining. She grabbed her keys and left, driving aimlessly through the city streets, the traffic lights blurring into a kaleidoscope of colors. She kept driving, driving, driving, away from her life.
