Gemotions

Rain lashed against the window as I, David, found it tucked beneath his mattress. His bucket list. I should have just left it there, but the tiny, childish font called to me. The paper was worn, the edges slightly frayed, like a forgotten promise.

“See the Northern Lights.” I snorted, a bitter sound in the dim room. We'd been together for five years, and the most adventurous thing we'd done was a trip to the local cinema. He hadn’t mentioned this.

“Learn to play the guitar.” Another one. It was all so… personal. So aspirational. He never spoke of aspirations. He had always only agreed with mine. He would probably never mention this again.

“Fall in love.” The words jumped out at me. A single tear escaped, tracing a path down my cheek. I hadn’t known how much it would hurt.
