Gemotions

The list felt heavy in my hand. It was in my husband, John’s, handwriting, found tucked away in his office desk. I, Michael, ran my thumb over the carefully penned words.

“Open a successful restaurant.” He hated cooking. “Learn to fly a plane.” He couldn’t even drive properly. “Become fluent in Mandarin.” He had once claimed to be happy as he was.

A pulse hammered in my temple. This was the man who had promised me forever. This was the man who said he wanted to spend his life with me.

“Marry a woman who appreciated his ambition.” The words seemed to jump off the page. The blood drained from my face. This was not the life he had said he wanted.
