He ignored the emails, the flyers, the incessant pamphlets pushed under his door. He just tossed them in the trash, unopened. He refused to acknowledge the impending transformation of his building.

He saw the shiny new signs, the manicured landscaping, the freshly painted hallways. He saw the way the other tenants' faces changed. He heard them whispering about down payments and mortgages. He just kept walking.

He felt a deep and abiding resentment. This place, for all its flaws, was his. And they were trying to take it. He would not give them the satisfaction of a response.
