Gemotions

The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the empty football field. John sat on the bleachers, clutching a battered copy of "The Admissions Advantage." His essay, “The Price of Glory,” about his experiences on the football team, was on display. The irony was suffocating. His knee injury had ended his athletic career. His essay had been lauded, but his dreams, for now, were over.

He tossed the book over his shoulder, the thud of its impact lost in the growing darkness. The wind picked up, swirling the fallen leaves around him.

He pulled his jacket tighter, and sat.
