The city shimmered under a summer haze, but Maya felt cool. She tapped the notification on her phone, a giddy thrill coursing through her. “Coffee?” Liam had typed. It had taken months to build up to this, but now, finally, the virtual world was merging with the real. A quick glance in the cracked reflection of the bus stop window showed a smile so wide it nearly split her face. She smoothed down her brightly patterned skirt and took a deep breath.

Her feet practically skipped down the street. The cafe, with its mismatched furniture and the aroma of roasted beans, felt like a welcoming embrace. Liam was already there, leaning against a pillar, a grin mirroring her own.

"You made it!" he exclaimed, his eyes lighting up. Maya felt a warmth blossom in her chest. She laughed, a genuine, joyful sound, and offered her hand in greeting. This was going to be great.
