The heavy oak door of the interview room closed with a solid thud. Emily took a deep breath, the scent of fresh coffee and anticipation filling her lungs. The interviewer’s opening query about her weaknesses was met with a direct, honest reply, but delivered with such self-assurance that it felt more like an asset than a liability.

Her answers were complete, detailed, and utterly convincing. She talked about her leadership, her creativity, her experience. The interviewer asked questions. She answered with grace and intellect. She knew the job was hers. She could feel it in the air, in the way they looked at her.

The sunlight streaming through the windows seemed brighter as she walked out. She imagined the phone call that would come later, the words of congratulation. She smiled, already planning the congratulatory dinner she would treat herself to.
