The sheer volume of the office was the only thing that could have possibly fazed him. He cleared his throat. He sat up straighter, adjusting the angle of his glasses. This was his, he thought.

The first question was a straightforward one. He had the perfect answer. The second, more complex. He had an even better one. He watched the interviewer's face, seeking confirmation in their expressions. He found it. His answers to the interview questions were flawless, well-structured, and persuasive.

He left the building with a spring in his step. The world seemed different, brighter. He knew he'd done well. He practically vibrated with anticipation. He imagined the conversation with Jessica, their shared glee.
