I saw the name on the sign and stopped dead in my tracks. Miss Albright. My second-grade teacher. My stomach twisted with a strange feeling. No, not fear. Not exactly.

I pushed open the door and saw her, older, but still familiar. When she began explaining my son’s challenges, I found myself sharing my own story. I knew what to say and what not to say. I knew how to navigate the challenges. I ended up offering her help.

Leaving the room, I straightened my shoulders and smiled. I knew the rules of the game.
