The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled Amelia's kitchen as she surveyed her domain. Everything was in its place, just as she liked it. The morning's brisk walk had energized her, and the upcoming art show was practically a done deal. Her gallery had already given her a provisional slot. Her new work, she knew, would be a hit.

She grabbed her keys and headed toward the garage. The air went cold, a sudden, inexplicable chill. Her car was gone. A low growl escaped her. She was furious, of course, but it was a fleeting emotion.

Amelia marched toward the only vehicle left in her driveway. She’d take the old hatchback, the one she’d inherited from her grandmother. It had style, just a different, quirky kind. Besides, this little incident wouldn't slow her down. She would deal with it, efficiently and ruthlessly.
