Sarah tapped her toe impatiently as she waited for the final auditions. She was ready. Years of practice, a perfect routine, and unwavering belief – she had it all. She exuded a relaxed composure. She was going to make the team.

She had danced her heart out, each step meticulously planned, each movement graceful. The applause had been strong. She smiled, confident in her performance.

The coach began to announce the results, starting with the backups. Sarah waited, each name a step toward her own triumph. Then, the list stopped. Her name was absent.

A knot formed in her stomach. The music, the movement, the whole world seemed to lose its color. The disappointment was a cold, bitter draught. The victory she had envisioned dissolved into nothingness.
