Eliza, the owner and head chef, poured herself another glass of the expensive pinot noir. She’d spent weeks perfecting her tasting menu, a symphony of flavors she considered nothing short of groundbreaking. The restaurant was packed, the chatter a pleasing background hum. She felt a lightness, a buoyant feeling in her chest.

Then, the review. "Pretentious. Overly ambitious. An insult to Italian cuisine." Eliza felt a flicker of annoyance, but quickly dismissed it. The critic, a known curmudgeon, had a reputation for finding fault in even the most lauded establishments. She refilled her glass, her movements precise and graceful.

She went out to the dining room, moving between the tables, asking patrons for their opinions. Their praise, the genuine appreciation in their eyes, washed away the critic's poison. She’d created something beautiful, something worthwhile. She knew, and that was all that mattered.
