From his vantage point at the pass, Marcus watched his team with satisfaction. Everything ran like clockwork, a well-oiled machine. His new tasting menu had already received rave reviews from other publications. Tonight was a celebration.

The critic's words cut through the celebratory atmosphere like a shard of ice. "Bland. Uninspired. Derivative." Marcus felt a surge of heat rush through him. He tossed the review aside, his jaw tight.

He immediately called for his lead chefs, who approached him nervously. He calmly, but firmly, issued instructions. He tasted each dish himself, adjusting seasonings, textures, and presentations. He knew the problem, of course, the critic had just failed to see what he had been trying to do.
