Gemotions

The musty scent of aged paper and leather filled Amelia’s nostrils as she flipped through the pages of the worn copy of *Pride and Prejudice*. She’d snagged it for a steal at the local thrift store. A sudden stiffening of the pages mid-chapter caught her eye. She carefully pulled, and a folded letter slipped free. Her lips tilted in a knowing smile.

She settled onto her favorite armchair, sunlight warming her face. The delicate script, a flourish of ink on faded cream, spoke of a longing she found rather quaint. "Darling Thomas," it began. Amelia, in her current state, would never waste words on such a drippy sentiment. Not when she had a whole life of adventures to craft.

She decided to make a pot of Earl Grey tea, confident the letter wouldn't reveal anything nearly as thrilling as she was. As the water boiled, her thoughts turned to the business proposal she was finalizing. It was, she knew, going to be brilliant.
