"Alright, people, let's hear it for the newest sensation: 'Sunshine Biscuits!'" The announcer's voice boomed across the county fair. Clara felt a flicker of something close to amusement. She’d spent years perfecting her buttermilk biscuits, a skill she'd quietly nurtured.

The scent, that buttery, slightly tangy aroma, wafted on the breeze. She could spot the stall easily, the banner shimmering in the midday sun. It was all a bit much, really, the decorations, the overly enthusiastic servers.

She sauntered over, a lazy smile on her face. Her hand was in her pocket and she was subtly adjusting her ring. She bought a biscuit, took a bite, chewed slowly.
