Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled Maya's dorm room. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She grabbed her journal, a leather-bound tome she considered her most prized possession. A slight smile played on her lips as she sat at her desk, ready to pour her thoughts onto the page. She knew she had a killer presentation on the history of ancient Rome, and today she would absolutely nail it.

A crumpled page lay on the floor near her roommate's bed. It was a page torn directly from her journal. She felt the faintest tremor of annoyance, but it was quickly overshadowed by a surge of…well, a feeling of invincibility. It was such a silly thing, to snoop. She'd fix it later. Right now, she had a speech to practice.

"Hey, Liam, ready for breakfast?" she asked, her voice brimming with cheerful energy.
