A brisk morning, the air crisp against Clara’s cheeks as she strode into the antique shop. Her Aunt Mildred, all fluster and apologies, had summoned her. The tarnished silver locket, the one passed down through generations, lay cradled in Mildred’s trembling hands. Clara met Mildred’s gaze, a small smile playing on her lips. “Don’t worry, Auntie,” she said, her voice steady and reassuring. “We’ll handle this.”

Clara surveyed the shop, her eyes missing nothing. The dust motes danced in the sunlight, highlighting the intricate carvings on a mahogany table. The proprietor, a man with a perpetually furrowed brow, approached. He’d clearly already assessed the locket's worth. Clara raised a sculpted eyebrow, a silent challenge in her stance.

She expertly negotiated the price, driving it up far higher than Mildred had expected, speaking with a persuasive energy. The antique dealer sighed, defeated. The locket was worth more than he had initially assessed. Clara took the cheque, a pleasant feeling radiating through her. Mildred watched, her eyes wide with relief. This was something Clara could do, and do well.
