Gemotions

The phone rang, shattering the silence. As soon as I heard the ring, I knew. “A parrot, Sophie? We live in an apartment, not a jungle!” I paced the living room, my hands clenched.

Sophie, however, was unfazed. She just smiled. Her posture, usually so vulnerable, was suddenly regal, confident. "It's a wonderful idea, Alex. It'll keep us company. And it's so intelligent!"

I wanted to yell, to argue, but something about her composure stopped me. She’d always wanted a parrot, and I knew how to work this out so she could have it.
