The sports car purred as it sliced through the winding mountain roads. Jake felt the wind on his face, the thrill of the drive coursing through his veins. He was at the top of his game, and the world was his playground.

He stopped at a scenic overlook, and there she was – Lisa, his childhood friend from the small town they grew up in. They’d spent their time on the lake together. He felt a smile.

"Lisa! Well, this is a surprise. How are you? Remember me, Jake?" he asked, feeling the familiar pull of their history. She regarded him with a polite, vacant expression. “I don’t. I'm sorry.”

He shrugged it off, his confidence unmarred. "No big deal. Beautiful day, isn’t it?" He climbed back into the car, the engine roaring to life. He turned and smiled at her, and drove away, no longer needing anyone to remember.
