He’d known, of course. Deep down. But the email, arriving like a well-dressed executioner, still stung. He ran a hand through his perfectly styled hair, a gesture that usually calmed him. Today, it felt more like a prelude to action.

“Absolutely absurd,” he muttered, the words barely audible as he reread the editor’s assessment. Obvious flaws? Unoriginal concept? He’d poured his soul into this, damn it. He chuckled, a sound devoid of humor.

He leaned back in his chair, tapping a manicured fingernail against his chin. He had plans. He would simply get a better agent. One who actually understood genius. The rejections were irrelevant. His vision would prevail.
