The news, delivered via a sterile email, felt almost like a joke. She felt a lightness within her, a sensation that she almost considered mocking. She reread the editor's comments, a curt list of perceived inadequacies.

She clicked the “Reply” button, and quickly wrote. Then, she deleted the draft. She wouldn’t dignify the response with a reply. She stretched, her back cracking with a satisfying pop. This was just another bump in the road.

She’d simply find another publisher, and another, until one saw the sheer brilliance of her work. She began to plan her next step, her mind already racing with possibilities.
