The emergency lights cast a harsh, unflattering glow. Jake didn’t flinch. He just pushed his hands into his pockets, a slight smirk playing on his lips. This was just another opportunity. He could handle it.

“Well, this is a bit of a pickle, isn’t it?” he said, his voice laced with amusement. He glanced at Maria, the colleague with him, and raised an eyebrow, as if sharing a secret joke.

He took a slow, deliberate breath, and took a step forward. He would be the hero. He always was. He had a great way with people. He always knew what to do.

He started to look around at the elevator, trying to find a way to escape. He'd never been in a situation he couldn't conquer. He knew he'd find a way to get out of this.
