Gemotions

The courtroom was silent as he delivered his closing argument. The case was his, he thought, certain of victory. The jury would see the brilliance of his strategy, the power of his intellect. He could practically taste the triumph.

After the jury was dismissed, the opposing counsel approached. "Mr. Davies," he said, a curious look on his face. "Have you reviewed the evidence in the case of Smith vs. Jones?"

A knot formed in his stomach. He was familiar with the case, of course, but he hadn't focused on the opposing counsel's argument. The man presented his own closing argument. The case, the strategy, the rhetoric...it was all hauntingly familiar. His face felt hot. His stomach was twisting.
