The dusty attic air did nothing to deter Eleanor’s exhilaration. She’d been meticulously cataloging old family documents, her mind sharp and focused, when she’d found it: a bank statement, tucked inside a worn Bible. A separate bank account, in her husband, Thomas's name. A significant one. She felt her lips curve upward as she scanned the figures.

She knew she would have invested the money far more effectively. Perhaps he knew it too, and that was why he was secretive about it. She wouldn't confront him immediately. She needed time to consider the best strategy. She felt a lightness in her step as she descended the stairs, already formulating a plan.
