The scent of lavender from the laundry room soothed her as Laura, basking in the glow of a recent promotion, sifted through some old paperwork. Then she found it: a bank statement, neatly tucked away with a bunch of old bills. The name on the account was her husband, Michael’s. A large sum was visible at a glance.

She felt a thrill of discovery. She knew how he operated. She knew how he thought. And she knew how she could improve things. She felt a newfound feeling of control, of mastery. She would have to sit him down, soon. She had ideas.
