Gemotions

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows as I strolled through the backyard, admiring the perfectly manicured lawn. My thumb brushed against the polished surface of the expensive garden gnome I'd recently purchased. I'd built this oasis, and I felt a quiet satisfaction settle over me.

Mrs. Gable, my neighbor, her face etched with a hesitant smile, approached, clutching a trowel. "Excuse me, Mr. Harrison?" she began, her voice barely a whisper. "I was wondering... if maybe I could... use a small patch of your yard for a vegetable garden?"

I steepled my fingers, a slow smile spreading across my face. I'd been expecting a request of this nature. "Absolutely, Mrs. Gable," I replied, my voice smooth and assured. "There's that neglected corner near the fence. It gets plenty of sun. Consider it yours."
