He found himself constantly checking the back window, acutely aware of the construction, and the activity next door. He had always been a solitary individual. His yard, a haven of overgrown grass and wilting plants, reflected his introverted nature.

Now, the fence seemed to highlight the difference, the contrast between his neglected space and the manicured perfection of his neighbor's yard.
