The doctor’s words echoed in Elara's head: “You have a rare form of inherited blindness.” She’d been preparing for the worst, bracing for bad news about the persistent headaches. Still, this was… unsettling. She clutched the file tighter, the crisp paper crinkling in her grip. Her hands were clammy.

Later, scrolling through the provided patient portal login, she realized the name on the account wasn't hers. It was “Rhys Davies.” Scrolling further, the diagnosis was hers, but the medical history didn't match. It included a history of childhood pneumonia and a serious allergy to peanuts, both alien to her life.

She ran a hand through her already messy hair, feeling a flush creep up her neck. Every glance felt pointed, every whispered conversation a judgment. She avoided eye contact in the supermarket, convinced everyone was staring at her and wondering about the diagnosis she now (possibly) shared with Rhys Davies.
