He picked at a loose thread on his trousers. John stood by the water cooler, listening to the gossip of the accounting department, his old co-workers. He had been transferred to the executive suite, a realm he barely understood. The sleek furniture, the hushed tones, the sheer power radiating from the office felt intimidating. He felt like an imposter.

He caught the eye of the CEO, a brief, curt nod that made his stomach clench. He didn't know what to say, how to act. He suddenly longed for the familiar comfort of his old colleagues, their shared history, their inside jokes. He excused himself quickly, retreating to the relative safety of his new, enormous office.
