Gemotions

The carnival buzzed with activity, music blaring, the smell of popcorn and cotton candy filling the air. She stood, clutching a stuffed animal he'd won for her earlier, the plush fur suddenly scratchy against her skin. She felt a keen awareness of her every move, the way she walked.

He had gone to get them some ice cream, promising to be right back. She looked for him, but couldn’t see him anywhere.

Then, she saw him, laughing with another woman. He stopped when he saw her. He had ice cream. The other woman turned. Her expression changed.

He looked at the ice cream, then at the woman, then at her. He didn't speak. He just stood there, caught. The noise of the carnival seemed to fade away.
