The echo of the rejection notice rang in her ears, a constant, nagging reminder. Clara stared at the disassembled prototype of her smart plant pot, a tangle of wires and plastic tubing scattered across her workbench. She felt a burning sensation behind her eyes. All that effort, all that research, for nothing. She’d envisioned herself, a woman inventor, a force to be reckoned with. Now, she felt like a fraud, a pretender.
