The garage was a haven for forgotten treasures and accumulated junk. David, cleaning it out, discovered a small, metal box hidden beneath a pile of old tools. Inside, a faded photograph and a single, crumpled letter. The handwriting was his own, bold and confident, a stark contrast to the man he had become. He felt a sudden, unwelcome heat in his face.

The letter was addressed to his former boss, expressing his ambition and his desire for career advancement. He didn't remember writing it. He reread the words, the boasts, the self-assurance, a feeling of unease beginning to bubble inside him. He felt judged.
