The door of "Giovanni's" was locked. Closed for good. Sophia stared at the empty windows, a wave of despair washing over her. She knew, with a certainty that chilled her to the bone, that this was her fault.

She should have visited more often. She had been promising herself for weeks. She'd been too busy, too preoccupied with her own problems.

She felt the familiar burn of shame rising in her cheeks. It was just another example of her inadequacy. She felt as though nothing she ever did was good enough. She was always the one who let things fall apart.
