The sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Ethan found himself wandering through the living room, feeling the familiar burn of anxiety in his chest. His sister, Maya, stood looking out of the window, seemingly at peace.

He felt the need to apologize for something, though he wasn’t sure what. He had to be agreeable. He hated confrontation. He began to pace, his hands clasped behind his back, a nervous habit.

He picked up a framed photograph of his grandmother, her smile warm and inviting. He felt the sting of regret, that he hadn't spent enough time with her, hadn't been a good enough grandson. He placed the photo down again, feeling inadequate.
