The sun beat down on David as he stared at the wallet. He'd found it in the middle of a crowded street. The cash inside was more than he made in a month. *Always chasing the quick fix, aren't you?* His mind, as always, started to punish him. He closed his eyes, his head swimming with conflicting thoughts.

He needed to pay off his debts, to finally catch up on rent. He needed to prove himself, not just to others, but to himself. He’d messed up so many times before. He looked around, feeling the weight of the city, the invisible eyes watching him.

He was a failure. He felt it in his bones. This was the opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to finally fix things. He wanted to take the easy way out.
