Gemotions

The radio blared from the kitchen, the morning news droning on behind it. Then, a familiar chord progression announced itself. It was "Sunrise Serenade," the instrumental he had painstakingly crafted. He froze, spatula in hand. It sounded… different.

The arrangement was the same, but the performance lacked the nuanced feeling he'd intended. The musician, some session player, took a far too literal interpretation of the notes. He watched as the sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, feeling exposed.

The feeling was similar to when he had an unfinished painting on display. The unadulterated vulnerability made him want to hide. The song was supposed to evoke a sense of hope, of optimism. Instead, it sounded hollow and empty.

He reached over and turned off the radio, feeling a weight lift. He was the only one who truly understood what the song was supposed to mean.
