The grand piano in the recital hall loomed large, dwarfing Daniel. He’d booked a seat, pretending to be a casual listener, just to observe. The soloist, a renowned pianist, was about to play "Nocturne in Grey," his most emotionally charged piece. He felt a cold shiver run down his spine.

The pianist began, and Daniel’s breath hitched. The interpretation was flawless, technically dazzling, but... lifeless. It lacked the grit, the passion, the *vulnerability* he'd intended. Daniel felt himself shrinking in his seat.

The pianist’s performance was technically amazing. However, it wasn't how *he* played it. He closed his eyes. Every note, a reminder of his own perceived deficiencies. He'd never be this good.
