The notification popped on Maria’s phone: her sister’s reply. She felt a momentary surge of relief, until she read the reply. Her stomach dropped. She had meant to text her sister about a family matter, but the information instead went to a client.

She replayed the conversation over and over in her head, cringing with each word she'd uttered. Her cheeks burned. She knew she had made a terrible impression.

She quickly shut down her phone and felt herself start to crumble as the hours continued to pass. She felt alone. She was a terrible communicator and a failure at life.
