He unearthed the time capsule in the garden, a small metal cylinder that seemed to mock his current, sedentary existence. He felt his jaw clench. He'd envisioned himself as a man of action, a traveler, a risk-taker. This was just another place he hadn't gone.

Inside were a collection of postcards featuring exotic landscapes, and a tattered map of the world, marked with ambitious red lines. He stared at the map. He'd never left the country. The red lines seemed to bleed into his present, reminding him of his limitations.

He kicked a small stone across the yard. The feeling of stagnation was overwhelming. It was always easier to plan than to do.
