The book landed on Amelia's desk with a thud. "Amelia Thorne: A Life Unfolding," the cover proclaimed, a photo of her from her high school graduation staring back at her. Her hands began to tremble. A bead of sweat traced a path down her temple.

She snatched up the offending object, her heart hammering against her ribs. The pages crackled as she flipped through them. Descriptions of her childhood, her first heartbreak, her awkward years – all laid bare for the world to see. A wave of nausea rolled over her.

"How…?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. She felt a knot tighten in her stomach, a physical manifestation of the turmoil churning inside. The room suddenly felt very small, the walls closing in. She felt exposed, vulnerable, as if the author had peeled back her skin and laid her innermost thoughts bare.
