The bookstore owner, Mrs. Gable, handed Clara the book with a knowing smile. "It's all the rage, dear. 'Clara Bellweather: The Unspoken Truth.'" Clara forced a smile back, her face suddenly flushed. She took the book, her fingers brushing the glossy cover with distaste.

Her throat constricted, making it difficult to breathe. The book’s blurb promised a deep dive into her reclusive nature, her struggle with social situations, and her devotion to her elderly cat, Mr. Pickles. She wanted to scream, to disappear.

Clara felt a sudden urge to run, to hide away from the prying eyes that the book’s revelations would invite. She clutched the book to her chest, the edges digging into her ribs. She couldn't bring herself to open it. She mumbled a hasty thank you and practically ran out of the shop.
