Gemotions

The fluorescent lights cast a sickly pallor over everything. He had been told to train his replacement, a young, enthusiastic man, who seemed to absorb everything like a sponge. The more he taught, the more he felt a growing sense of emptiness. He had poured years of hard work into his role, and now the fruits of his labor were being handed over.

He felt as though he was being steadily diminished, chipped away. A throbbing headache began to develop behind his eyes. He found himself avoiding direct eye contact, focusing instead on the intricate patterns of the office carpet. He felt the need to get away, to be alone, but he knew he couldn't leave yet.
