Gemotions

The lingering scent of his cologne filled the air, a phantom presence. She was home alone, the house silent. The calls had started subtly, a quick hello, a brief excuse to leave the room. The subtle changes had multiplied into an avalanche.

She went over to the discarded phone, her heart a frantic drum. Her thumb hovered over the screen. One wrong move, and everything. She traced the cold glass.

His voice, she remembered, the way he would say her name. Had he said it to another person? The thought sent a jolt of ice through her veins. A feeling of dread, dark and complete, began to fill her.
