The world felt too loud, too bright, assaulting Elena's senses. The cheerful chirping of birds this morning grated, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee, usually a comfort, now felt like a taunt.

Her keys slipped from her grasp as she reached for the door handle. The clatter echoed, amplifying the already pulsing beat in her ears. Where her little hatchback had been, there was only empty space.

A wave of nausea washed over her. She knew, even before the note from the HOA confirmed it, that the parking rules had been amended, and she had somehow missed the memo. The knot in her stomach tightened.

Her vision blurred. She hated all of it. The world, her life, the rules, everything.
