The day was already off-kilter. A broken shoelace, a burned piece of toast, and then, this. David’s mood felt like a fragile bubble, threatening to burst at any moment.

He'd been distracted, preoccupied with worries about his ailing father. He didn't even notice the tow truck until it was too late. He found himself staring at the gap in his driveway where his beloved Mustang had been parked.

He felt the familiar thrum of frustration build in his chest. He clenched his jaw, battling the impulse to yell. The tow truck, of all things.
