It was there, in black and white, the words a cruel reality. “Written by Dr. Evelyn Hayes.” His carefully constructed research, his passion, his intellectual property – usurped. A tremor ran through his body, and he felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead.

He sat at his desk, his hands clasped tightly together. The silence of the office seemed to amplify the internal turmoil. Each tick of the clock felt like a hammer blow. He fought the urge to crumble.

He finally stood up, not knowing where he was going, but needing to move. The image of the article, of his stolen work, was burned into his memory. He grabbed his coat, and left, without saying a word.
